‘Tis the Season For DUI’s
Things to remember when driving this season:
- Many vehicles are stopped for equipment violations (head or tail light out, expired registration sticker, loud muffler). After being stopped for any violation, officers then make observations about alcohol use that lead to DUI arrest.
- You CAN refuse to submit to testing. Be polite about it and don’t argue with the officer. This goes for testing on the street and at the police station.
- The suspension of your license by the secretary of state and your criminal charges for DUI are two separate matters. It is possible to fight both of these in court. Talk to an attorney about your options on each.
- A DUI when you don’t have a license or insurance is a FELONY offense which can mean a prison sentence.
